In March of 2016, the Big Sky and Greater Yellowstone Welcome Center embarked on a mission to provide a sustainable way to provide information to our community and our visitors. Like all good things, the Big Sky, MT On The Go App needed a little love to reach its full potential.
The app has two new and nifty features that we are so excited to share with you. First, push notifications. These are messages that your friendly Visitor Center Representative schedules to be shared with the 530+ users of the app. It’s a great way to get information to visitors and locals alike, and pops up right on their phones.
If you’ve already downloaded the app, you’ve started to receive push notifications of snow reports, community events and new this week, a way for the Big Sky Fire Department to quickly share information among the users to keep our community safer and more informed.
Another great feature we now have going for us is geofencing. With this feature, we can set up a notification to appear once an app user has entered a certain area., for example, a restaurant, Town Center, Big Sky Mountain Mall, etc. and will give the user a specialized message pertaining to that locale. Think: a new brand carried in a store, an event that’s happening later in the day, a notification that there’s a hot sale on mittens…the sky is the limit.
As always the app displays local events (that any business member can update), businesses, shopping, dining, things to do and lodging opportunities. This information is pulled from the business database nightly, so keep those updates rolling in. If your business has a community event or hot sale happening, pull up the app, navigate to the Go Local page, fill in your info and the code: 32013 and it will automatically place it on the calendar.
We have app cards to help your guests or visitors here at the Visitor’s Center, so feel free to stop on by and grab a stack.
