Name: Big Sky School District Levy Information Meeting
Date: April 26, 2017
Time: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM MDT
Event Description:
Dear Big Sky School District #72 Community,
Greetings from the Superintendent’s office! We are quickly approaching the end of the 3rd quarter and spring time certainly feels like it is upon us. With this time of year comes not only the end of winter, but also school election season.
The Big Sky School District board of trustees, at their regularly scheduled March meeting, unanimously voted to run two local levies this election cycle. One, a building reserve levy, is a renewal of a levy that has been in existence for 5 years and is expiring this year. The main objective of a building reserve levy is for long term maintenance of school facilities and for major overhauls to current infrastructure; as mentioned, this is a levy that has been in place in the district and is expiring this year. The second levy we will have on the ballot is a general fund levy. Due to the equalization of education law in Montana, school districts all receive the exact same amount of dollars per student in their schools; the number of students a district has determines the base general fund amount. A district can, if they choose, maximize their base budget through a local election. This is what the general fund levy on this year’s ballot will represent. All of the levied dollars will go towards a staff-ing model that allows us to shrink class sizes and make our student experience better.
We will be hosting another listening session here at the school to further explain our levies for the year and answer any questions constituents may have. The next meeting is scheduled for April 26th, in the WMPAC. Please make plans to attend if you have any questions or want to learn more.
Have a great weekend and thanks for letting us work with your children.
