The Big Sky Chamber of Commerce is proud to host a lecture focusing on entrepreneurship with business leaders, Sam Byrne and David Ulevitch.
Sam Byrne is the Managing Partner of CrossHarbor, which he co-founded in 1993. CrossHarbor specializes in investments in real estate equity, distressed real estate loans and debt securities, and finance companies focused on real estate and hard asset financing. With his partners, Mr. Byrne manages all aspects of the firm’s daily operations as well as its investment committee. Since founding the firm, he has overseen all aspects of the investment of more than $20.0 billion in real estate and financial assets across more than 350 transactions. Notable CrossHarbor transactions include the privatization of MGI Properties, a NYSE listed REIT and the acquisition of the Yellowstone Club, where Mr. Byrne serves as Principal Owner. More recently he has been focused on consolidating the ownership interests in the town of Big Sky, Montana into the largest resort development project in the U.S. Prior to the firm’s inception, Mr. Byrne was a management consultant advising and designing strategies for private and institutional clients with complex bankruptcy and financing challenges. Previously, he worked for Fleet Financial Group through its acquisition from the FDIC of the Bank of New England where he managed a large workout portfolio of non-performing real estate loans. In addition to his role at CrossHarbor, Mr. Byrne is on the Board of Directors of Affiliated Management Group, Inc. (NYSE: AMG). An active member of the academic and cultural communities, Mr. Byrne currently serves as Co-Chairman of the Board Trustees of the Peabody Essex Museum and is the past Board President of the Brookwood School. Mr. Byrne holds a degree in Economics from Tufts University.
David Ulevitch is Senior Vice President and General Manager for Cisco’s Security Business. David oversees the company's global security strategy, portfolio, and architecture. Previously, David led Cisco’s cloud security strategy and product development. David joined Cisco through the 2015 acquisition of OpenDNS, a cloud-delivered security service, where he was founder and CEO. A talented innovator and entrepreneur, his vision and leadership are responsible for creating a cloud service that today protects more than 85 million people worldwide across more than 10,000 enterprise customers. Prior to OpenDNS, David founded EveryDNS and grew it into the world's largest free DNS service, which he sold to Dyn in 2010. David holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis, which turned out to be more useful than he expected.
