“So You Wanna Be a Board Member” October 11 / 4:00pm-6:00pm Audience: Young Professionals
Are you interested in serving on a nonprofit board, but don’t know where to start? This free workshop is for people who are either considering board service or are new to a nonprofit board of directors. Presented by the Montana Nonprofit Association, this two-hour session will cover what you need to know to consider board leadership as a volunteer opportunity.
Participants will explore these topics and more:
What is a nonprofit, exactly?
The basic legal requirements of all nonprofit boards (More interesting than it sounds.)
What are the qualities of good board members, and bad ones too!
Do you have to have money to be on a board? What else might you have to offer?
How do you even get your foot in the door, and what you should consider before saying “yes” to board leadership.
How to set yourself up to succeed as a board member.
Every nonprofit in Montana is legally required to have three board members. That means there is plenty of opportunity, and you shouldn’t be reluctant just because you don’t have experience. This workshop will prepare you to identify, pursue and step into your role as a board member, which could become one of the most meaningful experiences you could possibly imagine.
