Job Description
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Director is a new position a Prospera that will expand our business development services in Southwest Montana. This position will be responsible for contributing to new business starts, job creation/retention, and capital formation for small business clients. The position provides professional business counseling to entrepreneurs and business owners in all the facets of starting and running a business. The position will be responsible for specific outcomes designated annually by the Small Business Administration (a program of the MT Department of Commerce).

The Director will be part of the Prospera business development team that will design, plan, and implement business development programming, personal business counseling, and education and training sessions – to advance the goals of the SBDC. The position will work in tandem with the Montana Women’s Business Center and other Montana SBDC’s to capitalize on existing resources and partnerships that can help clients be successful.

Business Development and Counseling
The SBDC Director will be proactive and establish a business clientele they can confidently help with starting, managing, and growing a small business in Montana.
• Recruit, manage and develop a pipeline of small business clients that can benefit from business counseling and assistance.
• Explore ways to innovate and design improvements to business development methods.
• Manage client intake and reporting processes, for 8-10 client meetings/week.
• Ensure clients improve their operations with business planning, development strategies, financial review and analysis, marketing assistance, managing a business, cash flow management, business projections, financing, human resources and more.
• Assist clients with loan financing, and other professional business assistance.
• Conduct surveys and client outreach for ongoing SBDC reporting and quality metrics.
• Assist business owners with applying for business development grants.
• Collaborate with other SBDC counselors and the Montana Women’s Business Center Program Director to improve the program and processes for helping small businesses.

Professional Business Program and Trainings
The SBDC Director will work with the business development team to plan and implement an annual training and business development program that is innovative and aims for high-quality outcomes.
• Recruit and manage subject-matter experts that can deliver coursework, and powerful business development programs that are fun, lively, and effective.
• Build registration forms in our CRM system, and post on website.
• Promote and fill classes and build a pipeline of training/program clients.
• Coordinate all logistics and manage training budgets, sponsorships, and partner relations.
• Design event collateral in; sourcing logos, photos, and training details.
• Promote the increased use of (, our online training platform.

SBDC Contract Management
• Serve as the point-of-contact for all SBDC grant responsibilities with the MT Department of Commerce.
• Prepare all quarterly and annual reports, program summaries, and success stories for reporting.
• Assist in the financial oversight of the SBDC budget, program planning and expenditures.
• Manage client data entry, business relationship and reporting in Neoserra database.

Outreach and Professional Relationships
This position is responsible for developing a professional network with peers and state/federal agencies and serves as a representative of Prospera to business members, financial institutions, partner organizations, and professional referrals.

Marketing and Communications
This position is responsible for marketing and communicating the services of the SBDC. Responsibilities may include:
• Public speaking, guest lecture and teaching, writing success stories, posting website updates, assisting with email and social media communications, and more.

• A college degree; and five-years of direct professional experience with business operations, financial statements and fiscal controls, accounting, business operations, and marketing and communications.
• Demonstrated expertise in Excel creating business projections, financial statements, and business fiscal management.
• Experience with grant management and reporting; preferably with federal agencies.
• High computer literacy; software programs, business apps, POS systems and other business tools and resources.
• Direct experience owning and running a business with employees is a plus.

Work Conditions
Prospera staff are currently part remote and in-office, and we have a collaborative work culture that is positive, energetic, and fun. The work week is generally Monday—Friday, 8—5pm. Modest local and state travel is required. This position will be part office and remote work (being re-evaluated monthly as Prospera continues to manage its COVID response). This position is based in Bozeman,MT.

This is a full-time salaried exempt position. Salary $48,000-$65,000 DOE. Benefits package includes 20 paid time-off days, 11 paid holidays, health insurance coverage (dental/vision), cash contribution to a Health Savings Account, SIMPLE IRA with a 3% match, and a monthly phone stipend.

Start Date and Timing
Hiring is contingent upon a successful funding award from the MT Department of Commerce SBDC contract (pending in 2020). The position will start in January 2021 pending a funding award.
