Organization Description:
Big Sky Community Housing Trust is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing a diversity of housing affordable for the community in order to grow and retain a strong base of residents and employees living in Big Sky. The purpose of BSCHT is to support the local economy and enhance the character of the community through the implementation of a variety of housing strategies. These strategies include creating deed-restricted homeownership opportunities at a subsidized rate to keep housing costs below 33% of income for local working families. Additionally, BSCHT works to increase affordable rental opportunities for workers in the community.
Board Description:
Big Sky Community Housing Trust’s board members believe in the need for a strong and active board to fully realize BSCHT’s purpose. The Board of Directors is composed of community leaders who use their time and skills to be objective decision makers and advocates for BSCHT. In addition to the standard responsibilities, BSCHT board members are active ambassadors for local housing and are fully engaged in securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for BSCHT to advance its mission.
Board members must attend monthly board meetings. They should read board materials in advance of meetings and come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions.
Board members are expected to play an active role in securing BSCHT’s financial resources.  Board members should leverage personal relationships and connections to help BSCHT identify and solicit potential funders, as well as directly invest in BSCHT’s work by making a personal contribution each year.
Board members must be 18 years old. Board members must unselfishly and responsibly represent BSCHT as well as advocate for BSCHT’s mission, programs, and services.
Board terms last for one year, and board members can serve for up to three consecutive terms.
