Organization Overview
The Big Sky Chamber of Commerce is the fiscal sponsor for the State of Montana-designated Convention & Visitor Bureau (CVB) and works in conjunction with Visit Big Sky (VBS), the official destination marketing organization for the Greater Big Sky Area, which includes the Big Sky Resort Area District (BSRAD), and the geography which extends both twenty miles north and south of the US-191 and MT Hwy 64 intersection.  VBS was established in February 2013 as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit mutual benefit organization.  It is a public-private partnership representing Montana Lodging Facility Use tax dollars, local Resort Tax Board allocated funds and private business investment in support of tourism marketing and promotion to drive economic development in Big Sky.  In addition, the Big Sky Chamber and VBS oversee the Big Sky & Greater Yellowstone Visitor Information Center (VIC) located at 55 Lone Mountain Trail in Big Sky, open daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Tourism in Montana is the second largest contributor to the state's economy behind agricultural production, and the #1 driving force behind Big Sky's economy.  In 2016, Montana played host to over 12 million non-resident travelers who spent more than $3.5 billion while they were here, directly supported 52,600 jobs statewide, and generated $194 million in state and local taxes according to the Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research (ITRR). 
 
Position Description:
The Marketing & Visitor Services Manager reports directly to the CEO and will assist with the development/implementation of an integrated, year-round marketing and communications plan for the Big Sky destination that speaks to consumers, the travel trade and the media.  Much of this will be done through acting as the account manager contact for existing VBS agency relationships.  In addition, this person will be the lead project manager for the Visitor Information Center, responsible for creating a training program on the Big Sky experience for VIC staff, building a volunteer program, assisting visitors, and working closely with Yellowstone Country and the six other CVBs to better facilitate the visitor experience in our region.  Additional responsibilities include maintaining and monitoring the annual marketing budget, analyzing and reporting on the effectiveness of marketing communications and providing administrative support in working with the VBS Board of Directors. 
 
Job Responsibilities - Including, but not limited to:
  • Assist with the development and implementation of annual comprehensive marketing plans for the Big Sky destination working directly with the CEO and third party agencies to fulfill the visions and goals of the organization
  • Coordinate exciting and energetic social media campaigns that build an engaged community of followers; expand email marketing efforts
  • Work with third party agencies to execute digital marketing campaigns that accomplish goals and clearly communicate brand identities
  • Maintain and monitor the annual marketing program budget with strict compliance with all State of Montana CVB funding rules and regulations, local Big Sky Resort Area District Tax Board policies and procedures, and any related grant funding guidelines
  • Help manage public relations relationships and identify unique opportunities to create appropriate exposure
  • Assist in the development of visitor experiences that accurately and consistently deliver appropriate brand messages
  • Ensure proper VIC operations 
  • Develop a training program related to the Big Sky experience for VIC staff to undergo in order to better serve our visitors
  • Help build a sustainable staffing model for the VIC by establishing a volunteer program for the summer season
  • Collaborate with Yellowstone Country and six other CVBs in our region to better facilitate the visitor experience
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; preferably in Marketing, Communication or Business Administration
  • 3 years marketing experience preferred; Tourism and/or Hospitality industry a plus
  • Passionate about Big Sky and the Montana brand
  • Desire to live and/or work in a small town
  • Knowledge of (or the ability to quickly learn) the Big Sky destination’s tourism product - hotels, lodging and camping options, attractions, recreation, entertainment, retail and dining options. 
  • Team player; this person is able to build strong relationships with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders (Staff, Board of Directors, tourism industry partners, government entities, local businesses, visitors and residents)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; this person is able to interact with individuals at all levels within the organization, tourism stakeholders and the public
  • Multi-tasker; must be able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Problem-solver; must be able to engage in critical thinking to access the situation and resolve issues at hand
  • Graphic design & layout skills highly desirable

This position is full-time with a competitive salary commensurate with experience and benefits including PTO, health insurance, and a wellness stipend after a six-month probationary period.  It requires some evening and weekend hours, and an occasional overnight trip related to conferences.
