The Big Sky Chamber of Commerce, with funding support from Gallatin County, Madison County and Big Sky Resort Tax, recently hired Sanderson Stewart, to complete a transportation study to evaluate traffic safety and operations primarily along the MT Hwy 64 corridor and to assist with planning for priority projects.  The selection of Sanderson Stewart was the result of a competitive RFP process. The study will include an evaluation of existing and future conditions addressing all modes of travel.  The community will be invited to participate in the planning process through an open house public meeting and presentation of draft recommendations.  The draft report will also be posted on the Chamber’s website for public review and comment.  The study will be complete by May 31, 2017.
“We are excited to be moving forward with this study, which is a pivotal step in addressing the transportation-related needs of our community,” stated Britt Ide, Interim CEO, “We are grateful to Gallatin County, Madison County, and Resort Tax for the funding for this important project.”
This study is part of the Chamber’s ongoing collaboration with the community to address issues affecting local transportation.  The Chamber also worked with both Madison and Gallatin County Commissioners to request a summer speed study from the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) on MT Hwy 64.  In addition, the Chamber worked with MDT to reduce the speed limit to 50 mph on US Hwy 191 for about a two mile stretch approaching the Highway 64 intersection from both directions, as recommended from previous speed studies.
