JOB OPENING: DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS AND MARKETING

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Warren Miller Performing Arts Center in Big Sky is looking to hire an organized,
hospitality-minded self-starter to manage the front of the house and day-to-day
theater operations and to help fill the theater by successfully promoting world-class
performing arts events, classes, and other theater-facility groups.
 
The successful applicant will enjoy every aspect of event and theater management,
from hosting artists and audiences to proactively managing audience numbers with
responsive marketing campaigns in traditional and social media.

For the operational core of the job, the successful applicant will be creative and
flexible in converting the theater and accompanying spaces (lobbies, green room,
reception area) which exist in and on a K-12 public school campus, into a venue
suitable and comfortable for discerning adult audiences and visiting performing
artists. This position is responsible for executing a clear plan that satisfies artist
contracts and riders flawlessly.

Additionally, they will recruit and manage a team of adult and student volunteers
and paid subcontractors to keep the theater operating smoothly and professionally.
This includes monitoring and operating ticket platforms, working with the school
and subcontractors on maintenance and housekeeping, and remaining in
compliance with access and safety codes.

The marketing aspect of the job requires an ability to define our audience potential
and create a consistent and organic culture of invitation and accessibility through
clear, on-target messaging for each season and individual event. The candidate
will have the skillset to be able to draft and communicate messaging themselves as
well as to and through WMPAC’s out-sourced creative and technical professionals,
including videographers, photographers, copywriters, design teams, printers,
advertisers, and community partners & individuals.

The Director of Operations and Marketing reports to and collaborates with the
Executive Director. This is a full-time position with work hours that vary from day to
day, week to week, and month to month, depending on what programs are in
house.

DESIRED SKILLSETS AND BACKGROUND
  • Five years of professional experience in marketing and/or other cultural nonprofit work.
  • Front-of-house hospitality experience.
  • Experience with managing teams.
  • Ability to work independently and self-assign on large projects.
  • Willingness to work weekends and late evening hours for events.
